My 1994 Golf had an alarm system in it so I'm assuming your car has one too. The alarm has a separate horn which will go off when the battery is reconnected. To turn it off, use the key and lock and unlock one of the front doors a few times. The alarm should turn off at this point. This will happen every time the battery is reconnected so be prepared and leave the key in the door lock when you are about to reconnect the battery, once it is connected and the alarm goes off, turn the key to lock and unlock and the alarm will stop. Just done mine with no probs no problem at all,just make sure you have the key in the doorlock to turn the alarm off,that alarm is very loud and I almost sh.. myself a cpl of times forgetting about the alarm coming on hooking her back up lol. Another thing you have to look out for is that in case you have a factory Stereo that you have the code for it.
