Yes, it's called alcohol poisoning. BAC of 0.3% usually will render a person unconscious and you will be able to tell the person's respiratory system is not working as strong as it should be (breathing will be shallow, generally). BAC of 0.4% usually will cause a coma. At this point a person's life is in serious danger as alcohol will slow down / stop one's respiratory system, which causes death.

Please, if you see a friend ever in this state, rush them to the hospital immediately. Stupid frat boys die from this stuff all the time. Companies that produce and sell alcohol do all they can to downplay the dangers of alcohol.

yes it can shut down your brain, but you in coma, and stop your breathing if to much alcohol enters the bloodstream
