Essential oils in general are produced by steam distillation or hydraulically pressing some part of a plant. For lemons, the rinds are pressed to extract the oils. For rose otto, the flower petals are picked before 8am then distilled with water to extract the oils. You also have chemical extraction methods which can pull out the essential oils, resins, and waxes out of the plants.

For blending, many people use a base oil. Sometimes it is a carrier oil i.e. - jojoba, avocado, etc.; sometimes it is another more mild essential oil such as lavender.

What is the difference between an aromatherapy oil and essential oil?

Essential oils are actually not "oils" at all. They are volatile organic compounds made up of a variety of chemicals but because they contain no lipids, they are not technically considered oils--at least nutritionally. "Ordinary" vegetable oils, on the other hand, contain lipids and that's what makes them "oils". Some vegetable oils contain what scientists call essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body needs but cannot make on its own. But they should not be confused with the botanical extracts known as essential oils. Essential oils are oils that use in aromatherapy. These oils have a therapeutic property and if use correctly can overcome some health problems.

Do essential oils contain formaldehyde?

Natural and organic essential oils do not contain formaldehyde. However, essential oils from companies that do not clearly show that they produce organic or all natural products may contain formaldehyde. In that case, essential oils could contain anything.

Is Pledge an acid or a base?

Differences between essential oils and fatty oils?

Essential oils are not truly "oils" at all. They are volatile organic compounds (VOC) made up of thousands of nature's chemicals but because they contain no lipids, they are not technically considered oils--at least nutritionally. A essential oil 'VOC' is a carbon compound that has a high vapor pressure and low water solubility which evaporates at everyday temperatures. The VOCs that we know as bad for our ozone are human made chemicals used and produced in the manufacture of paints, pharmaceuticals and refrigerants. The low water solubility is what gives essential oils its 'oily' appearance. "Ordinary" vegetable oils, on the other hand, contain lipids and that's what makes them "oils". Some vegetable and animal oils contain what scientists call essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body needs but cannot make on its own, hence the term essential. But they should not be confused with the botanical extracts known as essential oils. Vegetable fatty oils generally come from the seed of the plant where essential oils generally come from leaves, roots, bark and stems. Essential oils are oils that are used in aromatherapy. These oils have a therapeutic properties and if use correctly can overcome some health problems.

Are reconstitued essential oils considered natural if made from natural isolates?

It all depends what we consider "natural". If by natural we understand "that comes originally from nature" then everything on this planet comes from nature to some degree, starting with the inspiration. If by natural we understand the opposite of synthetic then reconstitued oils are not natural. Reconstitued oils are made from isolates. Isolates are aromatic compounds isolated from natural essential oils through synthesis. At that point, we have a synthetic compound. We cannot find that coumpound by itself in nature. Many different "isolates" (synthetic compounds) are mixed together to create reconstitued oils. These reconstitued oils are sometimes mixed with natural essential oils to obtain a more complex and true scent. The term "nature identical" chemical is also in vogue these days and used instead of "isolates" or "reconstitued oils".

How many uses are there for young living essential oils?

Most essential oils can be used for massage, and can be diffused to help eliminate odors in the home. Some oils have more than these two basic uses. Lemon can be used to sanitize items, while peppermint oil can be added to tea. However, not all essential oils should be ingested, so it is best to stick to the basic two uses.

What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?

Essential oils [eo's] are the oils that are in the plant. There are oils in wood, oils in plants, oils in flowers, seeds, rinds, pulp. EO's are natural, from the plant. They are volatile oils, meaning they can evaporate quickly and are flammable. Eo's need to be kept cool, in a refrigerator is best, in the dark, as in amber glass and covered, as with a cap on the bottle. Fragrance oils [fo's] are made from solvents and chemicals. EVERY fragrance you can purchase that is made by a conglomerate is a fragrance based in chemicals. Eo's can't be put in candles because they will evaporate too quickly and especially when a fire is lit! All the plug in air fresheners, are all chemicals. The little trees and shoes and whatever people put in their cars, chemicals. There is no 'lily of the valley' in an eo. No henna, no rose of sharon, no apple, no apricot, you get the idea I hope. Essential oils have chemicals in them, however they are naturally occurring. Essential oils can affect a person's body due to the chemical composition. Creator made them to heal in spirit, soul and body, not only smell good. Inhaling eo's brings the molecules up into the body, thru the olfactory bulb that is in the nose. These molecules are healthy because they are from the plant. Chemical and solvents that make up fragrance oils also have molecules that can be inhaled and go into the body. They are not healthy. Darn near every company that sells essential oils has excellent oils. They wouldn't be able to stay in business if they didn't. Young living oils are no better or worse than oils that can be purchased from Amrita, or Blue Sage Naturals or any of the other companies that sell essential oils or use them in products or anointing oils. There is serious controversy in the eo world regarding this company's marketing and usage methods. To learn more purchase a book by Robert Tisserand, Maggie Tisserand, Valerie Worwood and others skilled in eo's. Do not purchase a book made by or marketing just one company. There are essential oil and aromatherapy groups on LinkedIn from which you can learn.

How do you buy aromatherapy essential oils online?

When you're buying an oil, you need to be sure that you know that that essential oil is pure. All essential oils are not equal, and if you get a low grade one you're setting yourself up for problems. I wouldn't go on amazon.com for nothing because you don't actually know what you're getting in those "oils." Go to youngliving.us. Its easy to find out where there oils come from and its obvious that the founder, Gary Young cares very much about marketing pure oils. I wouldn't order essential oils from anyone else. They have hundreds of oils that you can do hundreds of different things with, including aromatherapy. Answer2: We all love young living oils since they are top notch. Before buying, check out the website for the environmental working group for quality and purity facts about the products.
