The growth of suburbia was more pronounced in the 1950's than in 1920, however, I will point out that in 1920, WW I had recently ended and soldiers had come home from the war; the economy was healthy (the Great Depression was still 9 years in the future), and people wanted to have houses with white picket fences around their front lawns.
