If patient is truly allergic to either Demerol or Fentanyl (i.e. anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock), then give morphine. Both drugs mentioned above are synthetics, which are completely different family from morphine, which is an alkaloid. Hope this helps.

i am a student and have just been assigned a 92 year old patient with an allergy to demerol and morphine. What would be safe for pain ?

Yes, it only enhances the effects of demerol, it won't inhibit it.
Ineed to know the answer cause I am allergic to hydrocodone & oxycodone and coedine and fentanyl okay so if transdermal has these drugs then I cant use this patch to help me stop smoking okay i need a herbal brand can you help me
Most probably. However, there are subtle differences that may allow you to take codeine. There are other opioids that you may be able to take. Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and oxycodone (Percocet) may work for you. You might also consider tramadol which is totally synthetic. Good Luck.
Duragesic Patches (Fentanyl Transdermal patches) and either Demerol, Percocet, MS Contin, Morphine, and other similar Schedule 2 opiates. I personally use Duragesic, Percocet, Demerol and MS Contin, and have for almost 9 years.
