Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese sea captain. In 1519, however, he set sail for Spain to circumnavigate the earth. He died in the Philippines so he never finished his mission. His sailors however, did. One ship returned to Spain in 1522.
Ferdinand Magellan was a male, not a female. He led the first expedition to successfully circumnavigate the globe. The expedition started out in 1519 and returned to Spain in 1522, but without Magellan, who had been killed the year before.
