General Douglas McArthur represented the United States when Japan surrendered at the end of World War II. The attached link from the Navy has many details.
U.S. Grant and he earned by leading the Union general in the American Civil War. thats not true he got the title because in a fight a never surrendered, not just because he was a general for the Union army
YES, they went thru Stalin and he did nothing because he wanted to declair war on japan so he could have his part of it like he got in Europe.
Actually, it was Japan that attacked the US first. We retaliated by entering into WW2. To end the war with Japan, the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This caused Japan to surrender, marking the end of the war.
The Confederates were led by John Hood, who lost the Battle of Atlanta, but got his men out safely. There was no surrender.
Harry S. Truman said that right after Nazi Germany surrendered, but Japan was still willing to fight. After one success, he gave the ultimatum "Surrender now, or face utter and complete destruction." Japan refused to surrender, and he got sick of all there nonsense, hence, he dropped 2 Nukes on Japan. Then they surrendered.
By the time he was appointed General-in-Chief, he had nowhere to go. Grant had got him under siege at Petersburg, and he was running out of manpower. He led the Army of Northern Virginia to surrender at Appomattox.

The US got involved in WW2 when Japan raided and bombed American bases in Hawaii in December 1941
Japan got involved in a war they should have just stayed out of. Japan bombed Hawaii. Then we bombed two of their cities to force them to surrender. And they eventually did surrender, and now the U.S. and Japan are allies.
Superficially because he was regarded as a god or Representative of god. (I am hazy on this) But as usual the truth is much more complicated. The most telling thing about the second world war is that even though the Japanese government acted in his name most of Japan's actions in the second world war were conducted against his wishes. Or so my 1970s education told me.
U. S. Grany had several nicknames. "Unconditional Surrender" Grant, The American Caesar, The Hero of Appomattox, Useless Grant, Sam, and The Galena Tanner.
Japan refused to surrender despite being surrounded, and the US had to decide whether to preform a costly invasion that have heavy casualties or used a secret weapon that had been developed. Guess what they picked
