An allegory is a method of communicating a message representatively through symbols an images. Allegories often teach complex lessons by the use of extended metaphors; the message conveyed is often much larger than the actual words used to communicate it. While the words themselves have meaning and communicate a message, the larger message is carried by the symbols and images used. It is the representation of abstract ideas or principles by characters, figures, or events in narrative, dramatic, or pictorial form.
