This answer for the most part is based on my memory but the "Prairie Gem" was a B-17G from the 96th Bomb Group out of Snetterton, England. The reason I know this is because the pilot's son lives here in my home town of Gering, Nebraska. I don't know him personally but a good friend does and talks about him all the time.
