Yes. Although the pre-1997 unimetallic Two Pound coin was issued as a commemorative, it is still legal tender and can be accepted anywhere British currency is normally accepted.

It would depend on the country they are from and the denomination of the coins as to whether or not they are still legal tender.

Is a British Two Pound coin legal tender?

Yes, the Five Pound (Crown) coin is legal tender in the United Kingdom in values up to any amount. Despite being fully legal tender the Five Pound (Crown) coin will often be refused in shops simply because it is not commonly seen in circulation. The reason for this is that, though the coin is of a standard size and weight, it has no standard face designs, the coins are always of a commemorative nature and so are often kept away in private collections. There is no way to force an individual to accept any form of payment, including legal tender. Transactions in the UK are always a mutual agreement between two parties. The Post Office have stated that they are happy to receive the coin as payment for goods and services. A bank should also be able to exchange the coin for change or a banknote, or you can deposit it into an account.

Are the solid two pound coins worth more then the coins with silver centre?

The unimetallic nickel/brass Two Pound coins were issued from 1986 to 1996 as a commemorative coin. They are legal tender and were never intended for circulation, but as a souvenir of the event that they commemorate. The bimetallic copper/zinc/nickel outer ring and copper/nickel centre were issued from 1997 to present as a circulating commemorative coin. Both types of Two Pound coins are worth Two Pounds if they have been circulated. As a collectable coin, there is no great difference in value between the coins of different years.

When did the Australian 1 and 2 Dollar coins come into circulation?

In view of their minimal purchasing power, the Australian 1 and 2 cent coins had became virtually worthless and considering their value, they were relatively expensive to make. The last Australian 1 cent coins were put into general circulation in 1990 and the last 2 cent coins were put into general circulation in 1989. They were both progressively withdrawn from circulation in 1994 and all prices rounded off to the nearest 5 cents. The Australian 1 and 2 cent coins have not been de-monetised and are still considered to be legal tender and can be deposited in banks. According to the Australian Currency Act of 1965, 1 and 2 cent coins are legal tender if, when submitted for payment, they do not exceed a combined value of 20 cents. There may be problems in getting a business to accept them however. The one cent coin was minted for "Mint Packs" only in 1991. The two cent coin was minted for "Mint Packs" only in 1990 and 1991. The only decimal copper coins used in Australia were the one and two cent coins.

Which British coins are still legal tender?

The British Penny has been issued in various form for well over a thousand years. There are books with hundreds of pages giving this sort of information, so this will be very brief and very general. Also, there are Pennies that are slightly different from other Pennies minted in the same year. The predecimal Pennies you are most likely to find would be dated 1797 to 1967. Rest assured that the rarest and most valuable Pennies will be tucked away in museums and the collections of very wealthy collectors. All years of issue of the British decimal New Penny and Penny are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 1 Penny. Elizabeth II Pennies would need to be in mint uncirculated condition to get One Pound (maybe). The following are coins you might realistically see, and presumes that the coins are either mint uncirculated or in excellent condition. George VI Pennies 1951, 1950, 1940 George V Pennies 1934, 1932, 1930, 1926, 1922, 1919, 1912H Edward VII Pennies 1902 to 1910 Queen Victoria Pennies 1838 to 1901 William IV Pennies 1831, 1834, 1837 George IV Pennies 1825 to 1827 George III Pennies 1797, 1806 to 1807
