No, it never took away patients' Bibles. However, the hospital did issue an terribly worded memo that stated no Bibles or religious materials were to be given out. The intent of the rule was to stop people from unwanted proselytizing. It was so badly worded, it also meant families couldn't even bring Bibles to family members. Walter Reed quickly backtracked and dropped the memo. The rule was never enforced.
