Honestly, it depends on the schools. I went to a Catholic School and all of my friends went to public schools. There are both good things and bad things about Catholic school. The good things were that the classes were small, classmates grow up with each other from kindergarten through eighth grade, religion is incorporated into every subject through class discussion and other things, the children pray through out the day, and they have school masses. The not so great things were the sheltered-ness and how a couple of the teachers at my school sucked. But honestly, I think Catholic school was good for me. That's just my opinion. I felt more connected to Catholicism and God through Catholic school. It really depends on the school and what kind of relationship a family want their child to have with Catholicness, etc.

It really depends on the school itself. Some Catholic schools are really bad, and some are top-notch. But in general, the atmosphere and environment is not as bad as the local public schools.

What separates public schools from catholic and private schools?

Public schools are free and government operated, being paid for by tax money. Private schools are paid for entirely by the parents and are not government operated, however, they do need to meet government guidelines. Catholic schools are private schools that have a Catholic religious element to them. Many people believe that private schools are better for learning, which I believe to be the case.

Are Catholic schools more difficult than public schools that have a harder curriculum and are well funded?

The difficulty level of a school is not solely determined by whether it is Catholic or public. Different schools, whether Catholic or public, can have varying levels of academic rigor and resources. It ultimately depends on the specific school's curriculum, faculty quality, and resources, rather than just the type of school.

Why are Americans educated in Catholic schools usually average superior knowledge base?

I don't know if this is still true, but it used to be true for several reasons: above all, the discipline enforced by the Nuns, Sisters, Monks, Brothers, or Priests was far superior to that in the public schools. In addition, the students were more motivated and usually better behaved than the public schools. Another factor might of been that the schools themselves were more homogeneous than many public schools, the parents were paying real money and expected more of their schools, and their children. Catholic parents had to pay twice, as they were forced to pay school taxes for the public schools, and they had to pay the tuition for the Catholic school.
