d-vers dot com currently features a Duane Hanson piece 'Test Head for Fundraiser' for sale.
According to the site, the test head was created by Hanson to determine the best colors for his 'Fundraiser' piece, and has an interesting history.
Sculptures created by Duane Hanson have been sold on the open art market.
You can check ArtNet or AskArt for pricing details, although the information is only available to account holders, and that is NOT free.
(Also, you will see the term 'Hyperrealism ' used far more often than ultra-realism to describe Hanson's style.)
Hi, I don't know how long ago your question was posted, but the artist, Evan Lewis, was commissioned to produce the wind sculptures for the movie, "Twister." He has a web site. You may also want to look at the work done by Lyman Whitaker (available for purchase, and much more affordable!). Best wishes.
I would be surprised if there were a precedence. While sculptures are bought and sold daily, rights--especially moral rights when applicable--are retained by the artist. Transfer of rights can be done, however. It's simply a written contract signed by the rightsholder.
