Gerbils are fast for their size, they travel at speeds of 8-11 mph and sprint at 17 mph maximum, they're predicted to be the fastest of the tiny rodents. But they're not as fast as their cosins the guinea pig and the rat which are 30 mph + . Sources: Rodent Velocity Expert
Gerbils move quite quickly and tend to scamper. They often dart and then stop, stand on their hind legs and looking around. Sometimes they go slowly and search. Their movements tend to be quite jerky and exaggerated. However, when they calm down, they will sit on your shoulder or sleep in your hand after lots of handling. They are so friendly, and rarely bite but like to digand burrow when things are in their way.
Gerbils can be fast if you keep them on a good diet. If your Gerbils are fat they will not run very fast.
Gerbils are rapid little critters, they can reach speeds of 8 - 11 mph for short periods of time, but they travel at 2-6 mph daily. Sources: Rodent Velocity Expert

It makes a warning noise to alert other gerbils in the colony that 'something' might not be right. It puts the other gerbils on alert too, to be aware of potential danger.

Gerbils are an animal and can not be "invented".
Other gerbils.
Male gerbils can be neutered, but it is not recomended. Female gerbils should not be spayed. In general male gerbils should not be neutered unless there is a good reason for it.
Yes, mice are smaller than gerbils, but I think gerbils are the right size.
no gerbils are not originally from the UK but instead from the deserts of Asia. But you can still buy gerbils in the UK
Yes, e.g Mongolian Gerbils.
