The short answer is yes. They have inherited the poodle intelligence with the fun loving personality of a labrador. This makes them extremely trainable and willing. I have one, and she had learnt to sit within the first day that we got her.
Labradors are among the smartest and easily trained breeds.
Like any other Dog Training should start young at 8 weeks of age. My lab pup was obeying basic commands and potty trained by the age of 12 weeks.
I have heard that black labs are the most intelligent of all the colors of labs. My black lab knows approximately 5 words--he can recognize them with no inflection in my voice. You could set your watch to when he wants to eat (by barking at the back door) Being that bright also has a down side--being somewhat sneaky at times. But he is an absolute joy--he is my first black Lab--I have had other hunting breeds but he is the best I have ever seen or been around. (like everyother dog owner!) But he routinely out hunts and out retrieves other Labs, Brittannys etc. I will never go with anything but a black Lab. Bring an immense amout of joy to your life and get one!
When talking about the ability to learn new commands, and reliably follow them, poodles are generally considered in the top 3, with Border Collies as the undisputed #1, and a disputed 2nd and 3rd between the Poodle and the German Shepherd.
Labradors are definitely top 10 in this specific kind of intelligence test, but below Poodles.
You can never really tell. It's different for each dog. A lab that is alert and looking at the surroundings is probably smart.
I think that they are quite smart, mine is sometimes goofy and a little bit stupid, but usually she is very smart and strategic!
Generally speaking, yes...labradoodles are VERY smart dogs.
