well they are good family pets but they are really yappy so unless you tran them to be really quiet you will have a great familypet
normally a Maltese will have about 2-4 pups :)
it depends on the size of the dog. if it's a larger maltese, about 9-12 pounds, then it's farely normal, but if it's a smaller dog then the puppies don't have that good a chance of surviving.

Wherever you look, stay away from breeders! They run puppy mills and treat their dogs horribly. Please, check out websites such as Petfinder for starters. You can search there for what you are looking for specifically. Then check your local pounds and or humane societies. You'll find one.
