The effects were great. It kept people off the streets and kept them on the field. The sports of 1900 were great and they are still around today and a lot of people play them, so obviously people liked them and still do today.

Generally the #5 is the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich.
McDonalds used to have many nasty things that they did to their food to make it last longer and to keep the taste consistent. When Jim Skinner became CEO he cut down to make their food more natural such as the chicken nuggets are not only made with white chicken breast instead of all parts of the chicken as it used to be made of. Their food has came a long way in just a short few years. The food is still processed because they have to make sure the food is consistently tasting and so it doesn't spoil. I have a relative who works for Keystone which is the supplier that McDonalds gets all their food from who says that the food is a lot better than most people think it is. Now the food is even fried in peanut oil which cuts down on extra calories (not a huge difference though). So I feel safe feeding McDonalds to my family in moderation!
They still have it as far as I know.
