Morgans are good horses and they are good for alround but they have a

BAD temperment (mostly mares)

NO they don't... if you buy a low-class Morgan, you can end up with a bad temperament. My Morgan has the absolute BEST attitude- she is so loving and sweet. She would go off the edgeof the earth for me.

What horses are good family horses?

Arabians horses in my experience are the best family horses because they are strong, sweet, and controllable. There are actually many horse breeds that are fine family horses. You will find very nice horses from many different breeds. I have Percherons, quarter horses, mustangs, thoroughbreds, and morgans. You can find calm horses in just about any breed. Personally, I would tend to go toward lower maintenance horses, such as mustangs, quarter horses or morgans. These tend to have fewer problems with bone structure and almost zero foot problems. Thoroughbreds tend to be higher maintenance horses and can be high strung. If you are unsure of any horse, lease it for awhile before you buy.

Is a Morgan horse a good horse to have?

Any breed of horse can be a good breed to have, and yes Morgans are very good horses. So long as the horse is built and trained to do what you want and you get along well with it then there should be no real problems.

Why are Morgan horses used as cop horses?

Not all police horses are Morgans. There are Quarter Horses and many crossbreeds in police work. The most important aspect of selecting these horses is their temperment. They need to be 'bomb proof' meaning they need to be calm no matter how caotic things get.

What are the main breeds of horses?

Are horses born English or western?

neither. they are born wild. they are trained English or western or both. Some breeds are more suited to western riding (Quarter Horses, Appaloosas) and some are usually English horses (Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Warmbloods), but any horse can be trained to do either.

What is the average confirmation of a Morgan Horse?

Modern Morgans are roughly broken down into 2 different types. There is the 'show' variety bred mainly to exhibit traits and movement that are desired in the show arena. The other is considered more 'foundation' bred. These horses are closer to what the breed began as. Morgans are compact, sturdy horses with good bone and strong hooves. Their most common colors are bay and black but can come in other colors. They have strong shoulders with a good angle, thick powerful neck, large expressive eyes, and the foundation horses have easy-going temperments. Their strong front-ends make for excellent carriage horses and they can pull heavy loads for their smaller size. The show-bred variety have a high knee action, well-engaged hocks, and fiery temperments that serve them well in the show ring. In this breed the judges look for the "spark" and fire in these horses.
