Not the PS1 games or the DVDs for sure
No it is not based on region and is based on the TV signals for the PS3s
Yeah, the PlayStation 3 is region free meaning that PS3 games from all over the world work on UK PS3s. (and on all PS3s for that matter) However, this does not apply to PS2 and PS1 games, but since the middle east uses the same encoding system as the UK (PAL) it can run all games from there, region free or not.
All PS3s play games released for PS3s.
No, not all UMD movies are region free but some are region free.
no
yes its region free
MOST PS3 games are region-free, meaning that you can import/export games from any region and they should work. There have been the odd issues though, such as The Simpsons Game - I don't think the American version of that works on the European PS3s. Blu-Ray movies, however, ARE region-encoded - so you must get Blu-Ray movies from whichever of the three regions your console is from.
There is no region free Blu-ray player, only the region free disc. Or there are some Region free Blu-ray player software, refers to: http://blog.bluray-player-software.com/region-free-blu-ray-player-software/

But you have to download the free content from the playstation store to play ps2 games on the ps3.
