Then, you would have to find a material to build it out of, such as wood or lego's. After that, all you have to do is put everything together, and hey presto, airsoft gun.

You are asking for opinion. My opinion? AirSoft guns are not especially dangerous- they were not made to be a weapon. While anything CAN be a weapon (ever been poked with a spork?) the ammo and speed of an AirSoft tend to be much safer than BB guns or pellet rifle that fire metal projectiles (Airsoft uses a plastic BB that is a different size than metal BBs). Bad influence? Well, it is a lifeless object- pretty hard for it to influence anyone. Learning to use any type of gun properly does teach patience, ability to follow directions, coordination, judgement- and it gets you the heck out of the house and outdoors for a while.
