Pontiac ohc 6 service questionsI have the same vehicle. I have a 69 Pontiac service manual printed in may 71. You can get one from "The Parts Place" in Elburn IL. they have a web site but I don't remember it. You can go to the library and get a chiltons repair manual for your year car and it will have all the specs in it.

The models available in 1955 were the Pontiac Pathfinder, Pathfinder Deluxe and the Laurentian. These pontiacs where available with a 261 Cubic inch STRAIGHT 6 or a 265 Cu inch V8. The 265 V8 was the same as the new V8 introduced by Chevrolet in 1955. The 261 straight six was built for GMC pick-ups and trucks. It was the largest straight six ever installed in a passenger car in the post-War era. The all-new 1955 Canadian Pontiac was basically a Chevrolet with Pontiac fenders. It rode on the shorter Chevrolet chassis with a 115 inch wheel base. In the US, the all new Pontiac rode on longer 120 and 124 inch wheelbases. Also Pontiac introduced its own unique V8 in 1955 that became the basis for Pontiac's later 389 cubic inch workhorse used in everything from Catalinas to GTOs. Straight sixes and straight eights were discontinued after 1954 (except for the exceptional but underrated OHC six installed in some 1966-67 Pontiac LeMans and 1967-69 Firebirds).
