Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day soaps are not classified as antibacterial soaps. They are formulated with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils for cleaning purposes, but they do not contain specific antibacterial agents like triclosan or benzalkonium chloride. While they can effectively clean surfaces and hands, they may not eliminate bacteria as effectively as true antibacterial soaps.
In the first known comprehensive analysis of whether antibacterial soaps work better than plain soaps, Allison Aiello of the U-M School of Public Health and her team found that washing hands with an antibacterial soap was no more effective in preventing infectious illness than plain soap. Moreover, antibacterial soaps at formulations sold to the public do not remove any more bacteria from the hands during washing than plain soaps.
Antibacterial soaps contain Triclosan, a water soluble organic compound that has shown to have anti bacterial properties. Regular soaps are just a mixture of fatty acids, oils, or detergents. All natural soaps usually boast that they are made of "natural ingredients" and do not contain harsh detergents or synthetic ingredients like perfume. Most often, antibacterial soaps are not necessary to kill germs , as regular soap has been shown to kill just as many germs with thorough washing. Antibacterial soaps can be bad for the environment. Triclosan can not be "rid" during water treatment filtration processes, so it usually ends up in local streams where it can have devastating effects on aquatic life.
Yes, it's one of the first soaps out in the market.
Dove makes antibacterial soaps - but not antifungal ones.
Triclosan is a common ingredient, it is found in a wide variety of soaps. What most antibacterial soaps are just as effective as any other type of soap, because most liquid, hand, and body soaps contain antibacterial chemicals. Unless a product is marked antibacterial, antiseptic, or germicidal it's most likely just a regular form of soap that we use daily! Soaps contain a variety of ingredients from PCMX/Chloroxylenol to Triclocarban, and some also contain tetrasodium EDTA which has other helpful effects. So these are some of the ingredients that antibacterial soaps contain. So be carefull and make sure to read the labels CAREFULLY the next time you go to the store to buy some soap. There are antibacterial soaps like Defense soap which contains natural and effective tea tree oil ingredients like tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil :)
Dial glycerin soap is not specifically marketed as antibacterial. While it effectively cleans the skin and can help remove dirt and germs, it does not contain antibacterial agents like triclosan or benzalkonium chloride that are found in some antibacterial soaps. For antibacterial properties, it's better to look for soaps explicitly labeled as such. However, regular handwashing with any soap, including glycerin soap, is effective in reducing the spread of germs.
Some examples of effective antibacterial soaps that can kill germs and prevent infections include Dial Antibacterial Soap, Safeguard Antibacterial Soap, and Softsoap Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap.
Olay soap is primarily known for its moisturizing properties and is not specifically marketed as antibacterial. While some Olay products may contain ingredients that can help cleanse the skin, they do not typically include antibacterial agents like triclosan or triclocarban. For antibacterial purposes, it’s best to look for soaps specifically labeled as antibacterial.
