Republic refers to the composition and structure of government while democracy refers to how it is organised.
Not, not all republics are democracies.
Democracy means "rule by the people". Republic means "rule by elected officials". Since the officials in a republic are elected, it is a form of democracy. Not all democracies are republics (direct democracy is not), and not all "republics" are actually democracies ("Islamic republics", for example). The United States is a republic and representational democracy.
A republic is a representative democracy, where the people elect representatives to make laws for them. All republics are democracies, and the phrase democratic republic is therefore redundant. Not all democracies are republics, however. A direct democracy, in which the people vote directly on all laws, is not a republic. Direct democracies rarely exist in practice, however, because of the logistic problems with getting everyone to vote on every issue.
I agree that most of the worlds governments are republics but for how many are democracies, I think only half of these countries are democracies. note: Sudan is a republic but it is mostly authoritarian. So was Egypt before the Arab Spring. Many African countries are republics but they are dominated by just one party.
Overall, yes. All three are federal republics, but Canada has a parliament while Mexico and the US have a bicameral congress.
Not at all- There are several types of Democracies, including the many, many Republics in Europe that formed after the World Wars in particular, and other continents. Republics/Democracies can be found near the US in the Caribbean Islands, Canada and in Mexico.
Most countries adopted forms of Representative Democracies, or Republics.
As is the case today, there were many different types of government in existence in the 1930s. Examples include democracies, republics, democratic republics, constitutional monarchies, traditional monarchies, and dictatorships.
A democracy primarily emphasizes direct participation of the populace in decision-making, often through majority rule, while a republic is characterized by a system of governance that includes elected representatives and an emphasis on protecting individual rights and minority interests. In a republic, the rule of law is paramount, and the government operates under a constitution that limits governmental power. Thus, while all republics can be considered democracies, not all democracies function as republics.
It was a change from the idea of politics of divine right to the idea that power is an agreement between the sovereign and his people.
There are many types of government. For example, there are democracies, republics, monarchies, communistic governments, tribal governments, and theocracies. Most of the world, however, has some form of a democracy.
