Salamanders usually have more wet or slimy skin than a lizard.
Orange salamanders look regular sized and are not slimy. They have small spots that are usually yellow. but do not sqeeze them to hard because thay are also soft.
Salamanders are found in different places depending on species. Marbled Salamanders (beautiful, btw) can be found under rotting logs. Some salamanders are found in rock crevices while many other are found in streams and under rocks in those streams. If you're searching for salamanders, the key is to stick close to water or moist areas.

Yes, salamanders, like all vertebrates, have backbones.
No, Salamanders only have to be in a moist area. Not all salamanders eat worms, some eat bugs and insect lavra.
Yes, i have some salamanders that have shed their skin. It comes off and sometimes you can see it floating in or on top of the water. It will sometimes even have the same shape as the salamander that it came off of, with little hands and feet. Supposedly salamanders will eat their skin, as it is a high source of protein. If you try and take it out of the water it is like a big blog of slimy snot :P
