Are angels a sign of good news?

At times, angels are seen as filling the important role of messengers of God and sometimes even as his heavenly allies against evil, in either of which case they should be a sign of good news.

Our understanding of angels has varied over the centuries and according to context, so at other times God is absolutely omniscient and omnipotent and therefore has no possible need of messengers or heavenly allies. In this view, angels would not perform a function that God could not do easily himself, so angels would not be a sign of good news and are more likely not even to exist.
