Poisonous = toxic when eaten, containing toxins in body tissue. Some are, including the centipede species that monkeys of the New World sometimes gnaw on to get high!

Venomous = toxic when they bite their victim, containing toxins in venom glands. Many are, including Spiders (use venom to paralyse and dissolve prey by pumping it through their fangs), and bees (venom gland connects to stinger).

Please don't mix these up. Most people mean venomous but say poisonous.
