Yes, varifocal contact lenses are also available but you will achieve a higher standard of vision with glasses. You could try monovision, wearing one contact lens for distance work and the other for close work. It's not for everyone and takes some getting used to but the results are excellent if you can adjust to it. You can also have laser surgery for monovision.

There is a new brand of contact lenses for people who have muli-focal lenses. I have heard some great things about them even though they are very new and a little spendy. They do get some getting used to just like any multifocal lenses does but it is completely up to how well you can adapt to new vision. You should ask your optometrist which brand is the best for you type of vision. You also have the option of multifocal lens implantation when you are ready for cataract extraction surgery!
