Are cardboard boxes made from trees?

Answer 1Yes, cardboard is really made from trees. The trees used for papermaking is called "pulpwood."

The bark is removed from trees, the log cut into small pieces, then shredded into "chips," and then cooked in a chemical bath which causes the wood fibers to separate leaving a "mush" called a "slurry."

Then the slurry is spread on a "screen" conveyer belt where water is removed, and then it goes to a set of several huge very hot rollers, where more water is squeezed out, and the fiber mat is squeezed down and dried to a long sheet of paper whick is rolled onto giant rolls.

Then, at a different plant, the paper is laminated into thicker layers, some with a serpentine [snake like] layer in the middle to add strength but retain lightness and strength.
