Chromosomes are tightly packed DNA. When DNA is not tightly packed it is called chromatin. Chromosomes only exist during mitosis or meiosis.

What are tightly packed units of DNA?

Chromosomes

What eukaryotic chromosomes contain both DNA and protein tightly packed together to for a substance?

Eukaryotic chromosomes contain both DNA and protein tightly packed together to form Chromatin. Chromatin consists of DNA tightly coiled around histones. DNA and histone molecules form nucleosomes. These are all part of the structure of chromosomes.

Why does DNA have to be tightly packaged up?

DNA coils tightly because it is what is called a double helix. The DNA actually coils around itself in the chromosomes.

How are chromosomes DNA related?

Chromosomes are tightly coiled structures of DNA (and proteins).

Prokaryotic cells I do not have a nuclear us so I am the result of loosely packed DNA who am I?

Loosely packed DNA can result in genes not being expressed properly.

What are chromosomeswhere and when they are visible in the cell?

Chromosomes contain tightly-packed DNA, and are visible only when the cell is preparing to replicate (before mitosis/meiosis).

What are thin strands of DNA?

Chromatin occurs as long thin strands of DNA. They are found in a loosely packed formation. While chromosomes are formed by a tighter packing, via coiling and compact folding of the DNA protein complex are thus visible.

How are DNA and chromosomes related?

DNA and chromsones are practically the same thing the DNA is held within the chromosomes DNA is in the chromosomes. The chromosomes who the information from the DNA.

How do DNA and cromosomes fit together?

Chromosomes are made of DNA. There is a huge amount of DNA in cells. DNA is typically present at a long chain of building blocks called nucleotides. Since long strands of DNA have to be stored in small spaces, they are tightly rolled and packed into structures called chromosomes

Why does DNA have to send messenger RNA instead of going out into the cell itself?

1. DNA is tightly packed into chromosomes; 2. t-RNA will only recognize mRNA and this is the way a protein is built.

DNA coils tightly during division and assembles into visible?

Chromosomes

What is chromosome and what does it do?

A chromosome is a mix of tightly packed DNA and proteins.
