they contain unhealthy amounts of Mercury gas. if one of the bulbs breaks follow the clean up directions on the package. if the package doesn't provide directions do this:
1- open up all windows in room and evacuate it for 15 min. to half an hour, make sure the door is closed while you do this so the gas doesn't spread.
2- when the time has passed vacuum up all the glass pieces and you will be fine.
