Steel is not used as an electrical conductor because, although it is a conductor, it's not a very good conductor -as is copper and aluminium, for example. A steel-wire core is used, however, to reinforce aluminium conductors on transmission tower lines

Why do electric circuits need to use conductors?

Without conductors, electrons do not flow where you want them to flow. An electrical circuit is a flow of electrons.

What are feeders in power system?

"Feeders" are conductors which carry electric power from the service equipment (or generator switchboard) to the overcurrent devices for groups of branch circuits or load centers supplying various loads.

Why should electrical equipment not be operated near water?

1. Because water conducts electric currents and this would prevent the electric circuits working properly. 2. Wet skin is a very good conductor of electric current and there is a high risk of an electric shock.

What is an electrostrictive transducer?

any device that converts energy from one form to another usually electrical to mechanical by using the property of all electrical non-conductors, or dielectrics, that causes them to change their shape under the application of an electric field

What is an electric power sensor?

Electrical power sensors are used to measure characteristics of electric power such as voltage, current, power, and potential degradation of insulation due to age. For AC circuits, an electric power sensor can also be used to measure power quality. Some electrical power sensors are incorporated into transformers or other components of the power distribution grid. Others are added to existing systems. Typically, these electrical power sensors measure one or more physical characteristics and convert them to electrical signals. Basic electric power sensor categories include electrical capacitance sensors, electrical frequency sensors, electrical resistance sensors, and electrical conductance sensors.
