Sometimes when men went out to work in fields and later on in their offices, it would be raining and wet and muddy outside. So, the women folded the pant legs underneath and sewed them so that the bottom of their pants wouldn't get soaked and/or dirty.
Greasers in the 1950s typically wore brands like Levi's or Lee. The style included cuffed jeans that were often rolled up at the bottom, paired with white t-shirts or leather jackets.
