Yes and no, they provide a plentiful source of clean energy, however, they also have a profound impact on local wildlife. Many fish species would not be able to reach the breeding grounds they go to every year, and some organisms would also die when a lake is created. In my opinion, the energy provided justifies the damage, as beyond construction, no CO2 is emitted.

Dams are bad for the enviorment, because they block the nautral flow of a river, and don't allow fish to reach their breeding grounds. But dams are good for people.

No one simple answer. Dams CAN be harmful. They can also prevent deadly floods that cause mass destruction- which itself harms the environment. The can provide water for cities- and for irrigation of crops. They can provide electrical power with very little pollution. And dams CAN be provided with fish ladders to permit fish to move around the dam.
