The term apostle is derived from the New Testament Greek word ἀπόστολος or apostolos, meaning one who is sent forth as a messenger [1][2] and should not be confused with a disciple (who is a follower or a student who learns from a "teacher").

Yes. There were 12 diciples. There were 4 apostles however the 4 apostles were diciples. The first 4 books in the new testiment are written by the 4 apostles;Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The apostles numbered twelve, the disciples were a less distinct mass, and included the women.
