Roman Catholic AnswerYes, depending on the order. For instance, the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) were formed by St. Ignatius specifically to answer any need that the current Holy Father may have. They, along with the Franciscans, and the Dominicans, were originally formed for a specific reason. The Dominicans (or Order of Preachers) was formed to combat the Albigensianism heresy. The Franciscan were formed to restore the church at the time of St. Francis, and the Jesuits were formed to combat the Protestant heresy. Anywhere there are Catholics and the need of that particular order you will find those priests.

Who ministered to Catholics in Colonial America?

In Colonial America, Catholic colonists were ministered by priests and missionaries sent from Europe, mainly from France and Spain. These priests helped establish and maintain Catholic communities in areas like Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. The Jesuits and Franciscans were some of the religious orders that played a significant role in ministering to Catholics during this time.

Did the Jesuits helped spread Catholicism throughout the world as the Portuguese took up the cause of spreading Catholicism in their empire?

Watch your Flags, there. The founder of the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits- was one Father Ignatius Loyola. His able right-hand man was St. Francis Xavier. Both of these priests were Spanish Basques, not Portugese. There were many missionaries of different orders in the New World- many being Franciscan- look at prolific City-Founder Fr. Junipero Serra- who was a Franciscan. With the exception of Brazil, most colonies in the New World ( stemming from Columbus" explorations)- were Spanish, not Portugese. It is a known factor the two Priestly saints Loyola and Xavier- were Spanish.

In 2013 there were 12,350 religious priests (in other words priests in religious orders as opposed to diocesan priests), all of whom may offer Mass, and there were 4,407 brothers in religious orders; for a total of 16,757 men in religious orders.

What are the names of the Marist Brothers' Jesuits?

Marist Brothers and the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) are two separate religious orders. Under church rules you can not be a member of two different orders (Actually that is a generalization and there are some very specific exceptions-but not for this situation.) It is possible to leave an order and join another, although the process is difficult and requires approval at the highest levels. There is no easy way to identify if any Marists eventually left and became Jesuits or vice versa. These records are probably maintained in Rome and would require a scholar's involvement to uncover. Please note that this is a different situation than when Marists work along side Jesuits in institutions affiliated with other orders. Jesuits and Marists share similar missions and they work sometimes work cooperatively,

Where did the jesuits spread chrisitianity?

The Society of Jesus was officially founded in 1540, though they started meeting in 1534 in Montmarte, Paris. For the 480 years since then, the Jesuits have been working to spread Christianity. Even during the period of their suppression (1773-1814) Jesuits found other ways to continue working for evangelization, often as diocesan priests or by setting up other religious orders.

What are the beliefs of the Catholic Franciscan Order?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Order of St. Francis, and its daughter Orders are all mendicant Orders of the Catholic Church. Their religious beliefs are, then, Catholic. The Franciscans have their own religious fervor that is built upon their founder's vision, St. Francis was told by God to rebuild His Church. The different Franciscan Orders have answered that call in several different ways, some are pastors, some preach retreats, etc. You can read more at the link below:
