no they are not
Well, elements and compounds are pure substances. This is because the atoms in an elements are of one type only. Thus making it pure. But in a compound, the ratio of the masses of the combining elements or compounds are fixed. For example, the ratio for hydrogen and oxygen to combine together to form water is 1:8. Therefore the compound is also a pure substance. But homogenous mixtures are not pure substances as the components can be mixed in any ratio. We can make brine solution by mixing any amount of salt and water. There is no fixed ratio. So homogenous mixtures are not pure.
No. This is because a pure substance is a compound (or element) and can only be separated chemically but mixtures can be separated physically. P.S. This answer was written by a 14 year old from Dearborn Michigan
Cheese is a pure substance
Drugs may be pure substances but more frequently they are mixtures.
Pure substances are divided into elements and compounds.
They are actually elements so that is pure substances. Mixtures are more than one type of element that are in the same space but not touching. Compounds are like mixtures but they are touching.
Some people divide matter into pure substances and mixtures. Pure substances are elements and compounds. Mixtures include homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures. Some people divide matter into homogeneous matter and heterogeneous matter. Homogeneous matter includes pure substances and homogeneous mixtures (solutions). Heterogeneous matter is heterogeneous mixtures.
whyMatter can be broken down into Pure Substances and Mixtures. Mixtures can't be broken down by anything, however Pure Substances break down to Elements and Compounds. The mixtures whether it is homogenous or heterogoneous can NOT be broken down and be observed because it is a chemical change not a physical change
Pure elements cannot be mixtures.
Neon is a pure substance. Elements and compounds are pure substances; mixtures are not.
Mixtures
Elements.
Pure substances (elements and compunds) and mixed substances (mixtures, solutions, alloys).
1. Most natural materials are mixtures of pure substances 2. Pure substances are either elements or combinations of elements called compounds. 3. A given compound always contains the same proportions by mass of the elements.
Elements are examples of pure substances. Lead is an element, which means lead is pure.
pure substance all elements and compounds like gold, hydrogen, water, methane etc. impure substance mixtures of different substances like milk, soil, sea water, minerals etc
Pure substance can be identified as either elements or compounds. Some examples of pure substance that are elements are sulfur and tin. Pure substances that are compounds are sugar and salt.
