They are both very intelligent but an elephant is slightly smarter I believe
This is more of an opinion question, but this is my answer: Dolphin, because they have a special range of hearing in which they can hear some of the smallest sounds. Dolphins also have a special way of catching food.

Compared to what? Compared to humans they're not all that bright; however, they're definitely near the head of the class compared to other animals, even those usually considered pretty smart like dogs, cats, or horses.
Years of evolution have caused the less intelligent elephants to fall victim to nature, whereas the more intelligent go on to procreate.
