They generally are decomposers, not photosynthesizers.

Some "fungi" are difficult to classify and have been classified as fungi because they have more similarities with fungi than actual plants or other life-forms.

It is a life-form that is widely researched and some specimens tickle many a scientist brain as to where they actually belong.

This middle paragraph seems to confuse Fungi with Protista. " Scientists brains are not tickled " as to where Fungi belong as they are all Eumycota. The only dispute over classification is within the group Fungi as molecular genetics has challenged some taxonomy that classified Fungi physically. Fungi are not plants, animals or protists.
