Renewable refers to things like wind or sunshine, which keep on coming even if we use them to produce energy.

Other things get used up and don't renew.

So sapphire is non-renewable. When we use it all up, it's gone!

Diamonds are non-renewable. An example of renewable would be a farm crop, which can be grown each year from seeds developed the year before. Once mined, a diamond is removed from any re-generation process.
