U.S. quarters have NEVER been made of gold. Prior to 1965, they were made of silver. Since then, they've been copper coated in nickel. Now if per chance you're referring to the small golden dollar coins with Presidents on them, which are only slightly larger than quarters, then yes, those are real money.
