Horses are prey animals. They instinctively fear the things that in the wild might indicate they are about to be attacked by a predator. Sudden movements or sounds will scare nearly any horse. They may also be afraid or at least leery of dogs and wild cougers.

they get scared of snakes.

It depends on the horse's temperment, skittish horses may be afraid but calmer ones usually are not. So, yes, they can be, but not all horses are. They may not be really afraid of the mice, just startled because mice move quickly. Added I raised/trained/bred MANY Arabians which many consider to be the "highest strung" breed. I NEVER once saw any of my horses frightened by a mouse, rat or snake. They can be startled by a quick unexpected movement, but they are no more frightened of a mouse than a curious cat would be.

Horses can be scared of not just other animals but humans aswell, horses can get spooked (scared) very easily, just by someone/something walking past him without the horse knowing.

Yes horses can be scared of many things such as: livestock, things that rattle such as trailers tractors..., plastic bags, loud noises, large vehicals such as wagons tractors diggers etc. the can also be scared of minor things such as humans, whips, puddles, other horses, headcollars, his stable, cars, saddle bridle.. there are definatly many things that horses can be scared of. Many horses are only scared of a couple of these things.

There is a wise old saying that goes something like "A horse is scared of 2 things: Things that move, and things that don't" And that sums it up really well. This is what has kept the horse alive for all this time without human intervention. They run from anything suspicious, because even if there is a very small chance of it being a predator, that tiny chance could mean losing a life.

it should depend on the type of horse maybe your horse was very brave and didn't care or didn't like the look of the ferret.

Because all non-horse animals could be potential predators in a horses mind. Horses are flight animals and easily frightened unless trained to ignore most things.
