Cheverolet has come out with a hybrid for the popular Chevy Blazer. Beyond the tax credit that is given for hybrid vehicles, it is claimed that electric vehicles are actually more harmful to the environment due to the amount of greenhouse gasses produced to build the vehicles and to power them. Not really. It only gets about 20 MPG highway and 15 MPG in the city. I would buy a Prius to be more eco-friendly.
Hybrids probably have a very slight negative impact when compared to automobiles of similar size. They are far more complicated machines which will cost in terms of dollars and pollution. They are going to cost more to maintain and will probably not last as long this increasing their pollution footprint. The hybrids shine in that they get about 10% (or more) better mileage then their non hybrid counterparts. Considering the Escalade gets poor gas mileage originally the hybrid version of it only gets a few more miles to the gallon. It is still no where near a high gas mileage car and there are alternative vehicles that are much better for you and the environment.
