Mites are usually found on wild caught animals. A lot of chain stores sell WC (wild caught) animals as they are easily imported for a wholesale price and sold for high profits. If you have purchased an animal from a pet store, there is always risk of internal and external parasites.

Upon researching to find what brands of sardines are wild caught it appears that all brands are wild caught sardines. Further research provided no evidence that these fish are farmed so any store brand would be wild caught. These brands will vary between countries.
