Earthworms do not like the light, the sun in particular, disorients them. It also makes them extremely dry. That is why you will see worms on the sidewalk no where neat dirt or grass. They pop up to find food on the grass, the sun hits them, they become disoriented and they flop around usually hitting the pavement or cement. The sun dries them out and they die and shrivel up.

Humans and many other animals have light-sensing cells in their eyes, but light-sensing cells don't have to be in eyes. Earthworms have light-sensing cells scattered throughout their skin, with more of them near their head end and on their backs. When they stick their head out of their burrow, these cells detect light. If they are crawling above ground, the cells on their backs detect light. If there is too much light, they crawl back down underground to avoid drying out or being burned by the sun.

Mealworms are not attracted to light. They are attracted to darkness. Light makes them stressed and cause them to dry up.

Worms don't exactly hate the sunlight, but they can be killed by it. Worms that spend about an hour in the sunlight become paralyzed and die soon after.

No, worms are not attracted to light. Because the worms like to live in cool wet areas. Without any light, it's more cool.
