No, definitely not.
Anorexia was first diagnosed and published as a disease in the 1800's. Anorexia is mostly found in female teenagers, that do very well in school, and in life, in fact Anorexia affects a lot of people that you would never guess have a problem. Female teenagers aren't the only victims of Anorexia though, Anorexia can affect anyone, Male or Female, teens to adults.
Anorexia is often cause by low self-esteem. This can happen as a result of teasing from others, rude comments, and depression. Anorexia can also (though some dispute this) be caused by the media. Most models are tall and very thin. Magazines show mostly re-touched "perfect" images of models. Girls often think, through the meida, that "thin is good", because there is a large lack of positive ideas about healthy, normal looking people and weights. Trying to be so thin can easily cause anorexia.
Stereotypical models and celebrities.
The basic assumption made in the question is incorrect. Everyone did not and does not wish to be anorexic. It came to prominence because many people had a poor self image and believed much of the hype made by fashion trends. Exacerbated by companies using very underweight models. There were several minor celebrities with the illness that added to the problem by people believing they were good role models.
Because many celebrities (especially women) do a lot like throwing up or not eating to stay too skinny and that is what our society has decided is pretty. it is constantly driven into our heads that you must be a skinny twig (or in the male case muscular and have a 6 pack) to be attractive and it leads to a lot of people (again, especially women who have it the worst) having anorexia and Bulimia. also Celebrities are just bad role models, many aren't exactly good people and don't live good lives. (just look at Charlie sheen)
About 1 in every 250 people who suffers from an eating disorder suffers from anorexia.
People who suffer from anorexia are called anorexics.
i blame the media mostly. They portray thin people a s beautiful and perfect and powerful and successful, when it just isnt true.
The age at which the most people have anorexia is between 12 and 25.
Mary-Kate did go through anorexia, how does this improve her people skill? What does this make people think? Its makes people think that it is right to be anorexic and not a bad thing at all. There is also Briteny Spears and her parenting work. Making people think oh its okay to put your baby on your lap while your driving with no seatbelt or anything, with no roof on your car. Real safe aye? And Britney Spears shaving her head.
Anorexia is estimated to affect 1 in every 250 people.
Anorexia has never been "glamourous".
