If a screening is done ONLY for THC, then only THC can be shown b/c it was the only thing tested for. If a screening was done for narcotics, then only narcotics can be shown b/c it was the only thing tested for and so on. If you are using multiple types of narcotics, all types of narcotics will show. This is true for all drug classes (benzodiazepines, ect.) There is not a specific test to show which type of narcotic you are using. Just a general test to show whether ANY narcotics have been used. There are tests to show levels of specific drugs. For instance if you test positive for narcotics, there are tests to show the levels of oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc in blood or urine. (How much you have done.) Screening for alcohol shows its presence and level. It is not common to be screened for only one drug. Angie RN

This will of course depend on the specific screens performed as part of the test, however it is a near-certainty that narcotics will be included as part of the screen. Oxycontin is a prescription narcotic. Therefore we assume you have a valid prescription. As part of the drug test, you should be asked what prescription drugs you use. This allows the tester to differentiate between medically prescribed narcotics (oxycontin) and illegal narcotics (heroin, etc). AM, Pharm. D., R.Ph.
