When nautiluses do reproduce, the female only lays 15 eggs that have a very low chance at survival. If the nautilus goes extinct, we will lose the last member of the nautiloids, a group of animals that's hundreds of millions of years, and there will be nothing on earth quite like it. It would be like losing the platypus or the horseshoe crab.
