The word "corn" means generally the grain of any cereal crop, and by extension any small food (such as peppercorns), or something that RESEMBLES the grains of a cereal crop (the "corns" in corned beef refer to the coarse salts used in the process). You COULD call peanuts "corns" in that sense.
However, peanuts are not closely related to maize, the preferred international term for what in the US is mostly called corn. They're more closely related to peas and beans.
