People have different opinions about this, but my opinion is that they were better off in 1974 than 2014. Wages were lower, but so were prices, and $100 would get a cart full of groceries. Though there were homeless people, it was not as prevalent as it is now. People did not lose their homes in great numbers back in 1974. There are numerous other examples of how people were better off back in 1974, not only economically, but in other ways.
