Some are, while others become disabled as a result of events after birth (for example, a head injury).
Same thing. It's just a twist of words. Mentally challenged is a euphemism for mentally retarded.
It's a more polite way of saying mentally retarded. It means the person has an IQ below 70.
Yes it is possible because, for example in my old school there's this retarded boy who get punished and blame for everything and he just don't get the concept of the way others feeling and the way they think.

While this question may be intended as a joke, it is sad to note that in the 1700s and 1800s, some people did get arrested because of their disability. Back then, there was fear of mentally retarded people, and a total lack of understanding about what causes this condition; undoubtedly, some mentally retarded or mentally ill people were arrested simply because they looked and acted so different. Today, it is rare for a mentally retarded person to be arrested as a result of prejudice. People in law enforcement are more familiar with the symptoms and behaviors one might see in a person who is developmentally delayed in some way. And if a person with retardation is arrested today, it is for suspicion of breaking the law, rather than because of a fear of that person's disability.
To start out, nothing, either animal or human, should be called retarded in ANY case. There are animals, however, born with mutations or that could be injured in accidents, so in that way, yes, there are squirrels that could be brain damaged or be a mutation so they might act differently.
Most with mental disabilities are born that way. As for the cause, you will have to ask them, there are many.
You don't. Unless your parents are clinically 'mentally retarded' then you can. But, if they were you'd be in Children's Aids hands by then. SO, either way, it's not going to happen.
Mentally disabled people are not able to think logically about things like dieting. They know that food tastes good, and they want it. It is hard for them to plan ahead and think that eating too much might make them fat. Think of them as very large toddlers, and you will get along better. If a toddler, or a mentally disabled person, needs to lose weight, the best way is just not to have extra food around. If they know the food is there, they will be unhappy and want it.
* They know they are different from other people and they know the names that are put on that differentness. * Many people have very different learning needs. Therefore, people who need extra support need it for very different reasons. Because of this it is senseless to categorise people as 'retarded.' I don't know if the way the term is perceived is different from country to country but in the UK it would be highly offensive.
Simply they killed them because they thought they were possessed by the devil or they were broken. Sometimes they actually "tried" to cure them by putting them on something and spinning them really fast to spin the retardation out of them. But now we actually know a lot more about why they are this way. So now we treat them nicer and tend to there special needs and they try to make them a little smarter. Back then it was best to ship the kid off to a live in school for 2 reasons. 1 because it was a great embarrassment to the family and 2 because they were uneducated on how to care for a mental retarded person. Of course our views changed because people now know how to take care of a family member with mental retardation and most are no longer embarrassed to raise a mentally retarded child.
Do you mean mentally handicap? If so, it's because they are just born that way. There's no way someone can 'catch' retardation or downsyndrom. Just the way they are born. Now, if you're talking about 'commen sense mental', then the world will never know...
